Before you get started

Answers to what everyone asks the first time.

Do I need a website already?
No. GitHub Pages gives your chatbot its own free web address on its own. If you already have a website, you can drop it in with a one-line embed code from the setup guide — but it works perfectly well on its own too.
What if I get stuck or mess up the setup?
Every step has a plain-English guide with click-by-click instructions and a troubleshooting section for the most common mistakes. Nothing you do can break your computer or cost you money by accident — worst case, you delete the files and start again.
What if my chatbot says something wrong to a customer?
Test it in demo mode first with real questions your customers ask. Every template includes a built-in hand-off message for anything it's unsure about, and you can edit or turn it off at any time — it only ever answers from the information you give it.
Is my customers' data safe?
Conversations go straight from your chatbot to your own private backend to Anthropic's Claude API and back — nothing passes through DIYChatbots' servers, because we don't have any. You control the backend, so you control where the data goes.
Do I need to know how to code?
No. Every step is point-and-click — creating accounts, pasting a file, ticking a couple of settings. You will be copying and pasting a few things exactly as shown, which is the most "technical" part of the whole process.
Can I cancel or remove it later?
Yes, any time. There's no subscription to DIYChatbots to cancel — you can delete the GitHub repository, pause the backend, or simply stop paying for AI usage, and the chatbot stops working immediately.
